Hand held radio options

Postby Captain Jibberjabber » Fri Sep 16, 2016 11:59 am

Hey Im looking for a airband radio. What are the best options? The A15 seems to be the one for RPA but has the following issue:

This radio is available under the terms of a special permit from the ACMA and does not meet the current ACMA standard. Users should assure that the radio meets the performance requirements of their particular application. It is the only iCom hand held radio currently available for use in Australia.http://mongrelgear.com.au/airband-radio ... etail.html

Can any one recommend an alternative? Thanks.

The ACMA has taken a sensible stance in allowing the IC A-15 to be sold and used in Australia even though a minor design flaw could cause unwanted interference to nearby equipment. There are very few alternatives available here. The radio works well and is good value for money IMHO. I have recently purchased 2 units for RPAS use (so far, nobody has complained  ).

More info from ACMA here: http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/engage-b ... operations

And here's the standard it doesn't quite meet: http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/radiocom ... e-standard
